Description Product Details Reviews (0) C. H. Spurgeon Autobiography The enduring value of the C.H. Spurgeon Autobiography lies in its record of God’s grace. Throughout these pages, the Saviour stands above the servant. That Christ is worthy of a devotion and a service incomparably greater than any redeemed sinner can render is the supreme lesson of the book. ‘In his heart,’ wrote Archibald Brown, ‘Jesus stood unapproached, unrivaled. He worshipped Him; he adored Him. He was our Lord’s delighted captive.’ Whatever Spurgeon did he did it for Christ. None can read these pages without being indelibly impressed with the author’s words, ‘there is no time for serving the Lord like the very earliest days of youth.’ Volume 1: The Early Years By far, the best biography of Spurgeon, being his own account! Your respect and admiration for this great preacher and man of God will grow through the reading of this hugely important work. While any autobiography lacks the continuity of a well-researched biography, there is a freshness to it that is endearing. Spurgeon relates anecdote-like memories, along with detailed descriptions of some of the more pertinent events of his life. The chapters dealing with his conviction of sin and subsequent conversion are especially enlightening. His wife, Susannah Spurgeon, wrote several chapters that are also included – mostly about their courtship and early wedded life. This volume deals mainly with Spurgeon’s childhood and early ministry with the New Park Street Baptist Church, and of course, includes some of Spurgeon’s own humor. Volume 2: The Full Harvest This 2nd volume of Spurgeon’s massive biography picks up where Volume 1, The Early Years left off. Packed with numerous anecdotes, sermon extracts, letters, and data written by Spurgeon himself, Susannah (his wife), and Joseph Harrald (his secretary), this book is a treasury of information about modern history’s most influential preacher. Commencing where Vol 1 left off, when the new Metropolitan Tabernacle was being built, where Spurgeon heralded the gospel of Christ to thousands for the next 30 years. Many aspects of his life are covered well, including his literary efforts, the pastor’s college, his home life, his numerous afflictions, and the Down-grade controversy. Delightful, rich, informative, and enjoyable to any lover of Spurgeon or of Christian biography.
